Solartron ISA is a leading expert in flow measurement technology, with over 50 years of experience in the field. They design, manufacture, and support equipment used for flow measurement applications across the globe, particularly in the oil and gas industry. Their expertise lies in the following areas:

  • Multiphase flow measurement: Solartron ISA is a leader in the development and application of multiphase flowmeters, which are used to measure the flow of gas, condensate, and water. This is a complex task, as the different phases can have different properties and flow rates. Solartron ISA's meters are designed to accurately measure all three phases, even in harsh environments.
  • Subsea flow measurement: Solartron ISA also has a wide range of expertise in subsea flow measurement. Their meters are designed to operate in deep water and harsh environments, and they can be used to measure the flow of oil, gas, and water, for single phase injection and gas, condensate and water for wet gas multiphase.
  • Wet gas flow measurement: Solartron ISA's wet gas flow meters are designed to measure the flow of gas that contains a significant amount of liquid. This liquid is composed of condensate and produced water. It is a challenging task, as the liquid interferes with the measurement of the gas. Solartron ISA's meters are designed to overcome this challenge and provide accurate measurements.
  • Flowmeter calibration and training: The meters are initially calibrated off-site in third party flow loops. Solartron ISA offers a wide range of operation and maintenance training services to help their customers get the most out of their flowmeters.
  • In addition to their expertise in flow measurement technology, Solartron ISA is also committed to providing excellent customer service. They have a global network of sales and support staff who are available to help customers with any questions or problems they may have.

Solartron itself was founded in 1968, though they later merged with ISA to form Solartron ISA. Meter production began in 1968.

Solarton ISA offered the world's first subsea flow meter in 1991. Take a look at the timeline.

Yes, all Solartron flowmeters are dual certified to comply with EU PED and the UKCA’s PE(S)R regulations

The specific model of the flow meter: Different models have different pressure ratings and intended uses. Some models may be considered "pressure equipment" under the PED, while others may not.

The pressure and volume of the fluids the meter is designed for: The PED applies to equipment designed for specific pressure and volume thresholds. If your flow meter operates below these thresholds, it may not be subject to the PED.

The intended use of the flow meter: The PED only applies to equipment intended for use within the European Economic Area (EEA). If your flow meter is only used outside the EEA, it may not need to comply with the PED.

Here's what we recommend determining if your flow meter complies with the PED:
  1. Consult the user manual or technical specifications for your specific flow meter model. This documentation should indicate the pressure rating and whether the meter is considered "pressure equipment" under the PED.
  2. Contact the manufacturer of the flow meter directly. They can provide definitive information on whether your specific model complies with the PED and what documentation is available to support this.
  3. If you are unsure, consult with a qualified engineer or other expert who is familiar with the PED. They can help you assess whether your flow meter falls under the scope of the directive and advise you on the necessary steps for compliance.

Yes, Solartron's products adhere to various international standards. Here are some examples:
  • ISO 9001:2015: This is a quality management system standard that ensures that companies provide products and services that meet customer requirements. Solartron is certified to ISO 9001:2015, which means that their products are designed, manufactured, and tested to meet high quality standards.

Fun Fact: Our technical staff chair ISO TC/30 and ISO TC/30 SC2

  • CE Marking: This marking indicates that a product complies with the safety, health, and environmental requirements of the European Union. Many of Solartron's products are CE marked, which means that they can be sold in the European Union.

  • UKCA Marking: This marking is the UK's equivalent to the CE Marking. It indicates that a product complies with the safety, health, and environmental requirements of the UK. Solartron's products that are sold in the UK must be UKCA marked.
